queen sondok(632-647 ad)
Queen Sondok was the first woman to rule in Korea. She ruled over Silla. The thrown was passed down to her from her father because she had no brothers and she was the oldest daughter. Even though she was a woman ruler, she was given great respect from her people. It is believed that her people had confidence in her, despite her being a woman, because Confusism had not yet prevailed over Asia. She enhanced the culture with her belief in education. Also, she arranged the development of the Hwangnyongsa pagoda for protection from the outside.
king sejong(1397-1450 ad)
At the age of twenty-two, King Sejong was given the throne to the Joseon Dynasty. He was ruler who truly cared for his country and his people. It was his goal to establish an effective government for the well-being of the people. Sejong was a religious man. He first practiced Confucian, but later switched to Buddhism. Under Sejong, there was a great advancement in technology. There were water clocks, sundials, and other weapons that were developed to better protect their land. The most notable accomplishment of his was the development of hangul. This improved the literacy rates of the civilization as a whole.
Admiral yi sun-shin(1545-1598 ad)
Admiral Yi Sun-Shin was a Korean war hero. He was born into to a poor family, but through hard work and determination he became an established military officer. He has acclaimed fame from both his invention of the turtle ship and his domination over the Japanese. His design of the turtle ship was so innovative that it was one of the contributing factors of the Japanese defeat. He also changed his name to King Taejo in 1392 when he gained control of the Goryeo Dynasty.
