Social Classes
Yangban
The Yangban were the elite royalty class of the Korean culture and were supported by the lower class structure.
Chungin
The Chungin were the middle class of the Korean culture.
Sangmin
The Sangmin were in the lower status structure in the Korean society. They performed the vast majority of the common labor, had the highest contribution rate in societies taxes and constituted the essential foundation of the military's strength.
Cheonmin
The Cheonmin were the lowest class in society. They performed the most rudimentary and unskilled manual labor, which essentially kept them at the lower societal level.
